Our products are derived from stevia (stevia rebaudiana), a plant native to Paraguay. The leaves from the stevia plant have been safely used for hundreds of years in Paraguay and Brazil to naturally sweeten local teas, and as a “sweet treat”. There are several related substances that can be derived from the stevia plant, but the best tasting, purest and sweetest of all of them is Rebaudioside-A . It also boasts exceptional technical properties like heat and pH stability.
PureCircle has developed a method of naturally extracting Reb-A from the plant to produce a substance which tastes very similar to sugar, but which is 200 times sweeter, has a beneficial dietary effect and no calories. PureCircle has harnessed the full potential of stevia by producing sweeteners from the other naturally occurring substances in the plant.
